Burton Burns, University of Alabama Associate Head Coach and Running Backs Coach will speak at the New Horizons Credit Union 1st & 10 Club on Sept. 22 at Heron Lakes Country Club in Mobile, AL beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Entering his ninth season at the University of Alabama, Burns has developed one of the nation’s strongest running games with standout players including 2009 Heisman Trophy Winner Mark Ingram, and 2011 Heisman Trophy Finalist Trent Richardson. Prior to Alabama, Burns spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at Clemson. He was a major factor in producing six of the top 10 offenses in Clemson history. As running backs coach, he tutored star players such as James Davis, C.J. Spiller, and Reggie Meriwether to name a few. Burns also coached at St. Augustine High School in New Orleans where he helped lead the team to two state championships in 1978-1979 and six district titles.

Burns played fullback at Nebraska under head coach Tom Osborne from 1971-1975. The Cornhuskers claimed Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl, and Sugar Bowl victories during that time. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Nebraska in 1976.

Burns, a native of New Orleans, is married to the former Connie Winder. The couple has three daughters, Amber, Christy, and Erin, and a son Damon.
